Burnley FC Ladies First Team have successfully progressed into the Third round of the FA Cup, the furthest stage of the competition the club has reached in its history!
The historic victory came after the team faced tough second round competition in a game against Stoke City Ladies, a team two divisions above the Clarets ladies, away at Stoke City Community Ground in Staffordshire.
The exciting game saw the fixture go into extra time with Burnley FC Ladies eventually beating Stoke City Ladies 4-1 on penalties.
It’s a fantastic achievement for Burnley FC Ladies who had failed to reach the second round of the competition in previous years, let alone make it through to the third.
With every player giving their all on the pitch the incredible win further highlights the focus and improvements made to women’s football at Burnley FC in the Community.
Burnley FC Ladies First Team Manager, Matt Bee said: “It was an unbelievable day for everyone involved with Burnley FC Ladies. Going into the game no one gave us a chance but we worked hard in the build-up and every player was fantastic on the day and took to the game plan brilliantly.”
“The cup run is creating a bit of a buzz for female football in the town so we will keep working hard to ensure we do everyone connected with the club proud.”
The Third-round draw for the SSE Women’s FA Cup took place today with Burnley FC Ladies due to face Cardiff City Ladies away on Sunday 7th January 2018!
