This month Burnley FC in the Community hosted its second Golf Day at Nelson Golf Club, raising over £7,000 for the charity’s various community programmes.
The event was kindly sponsored by The Green Shield Group and despite the unpredictable Lancashire mix in weather, eighteen teams took to the iconic course to battle it out for The Brian Nelson Trophy.
Teams took to the field from mid-morning and upon arrival, golfers were provided with complementary golf balls which were kindly donated by Pennine Pneumatic Services.
Match day hospitality, vouchers and trophies kindly sponsored by Friction Components were all offered on the day with prizes for nearest the pin, longest drive and hole in one competitions out on the course, a special thanks to VEKA, Bowland IT, Windle and Bowker and Burnley College for sponsoring this activity.
This years crowned champions were Eric Hargreaves and his team representing Windle and Bowker Accountants, with event sponsors The Green Shield Group following in a close second place.
Back in the club house, the teams enjoyed post round food which was kindly sponsored by Mc Devitt Electrical, whilst hearing about the work of the charity, Burnley FC in the Community, as well as taking part in a raffle and auction.
Ben Bottomley, Head of Partnerships and Fundraising at Burnley FC in the Community, said:
“The day was a huge success with eighteen teams taking part on the day, this year’s event was fully subscribed within a few days which shows the support from the local business community. 2020 was our first ever golf day and the success from the previous year helped us propel things forward for this year, I would like to thank all those who took part and I can’t wait to return in 2023’’
