Burnley FC in the Community is pleased to announce the Burnley Community Kitchen will open Monday 6th August 2018 in the heart of the Charter Walk Shopping Centre.
Burnley Community Kitchen, operated by Burnley FC in the Community, will be inclusive of a foodbank, a café, a teaching kitchen and a meeting space and will aim to deliver positive change for people in the town, using food as the catalyst.
The foodbank element of the facility, set up in a supermarket-style layout, will offer a dignity of choice to users and will be closely linked to an in-house teaching kitchen. Trained Burnley FC in the Community staff will offer cookery lessons to foodbank users, with the aim to develop their home-cooking confidence and skills using foods they can access from the foodbank itself.
The Kitchen will also ultimately aim to lift users out of foodbank reliance by offering employment, financial and education support.
As well as the foodbank, the space will include a community café for public use, a meeting space for community groups, a book exchange and a children’s play area.
Paul France, Deputy Chief Executive Officer for Burnley FC in the Community, said: “Daily work continues on the Kitchen. We’ve come a long way over the past few months and we’re proud to see the many elements of the facility taking shape.
“We’re working with lots of fantastic partners in the town who have really got behind Burnley FC in the Community and our ambitions for the Kitchen – and those who will use it. We look forward to opening the doors to the town next month!”
Burnley Community Kitchen is operated by Burnley FC in the Community, the official charity of Burnley Football Club.
