Charlie is Taylor-made for education celebrations

Past and present participants of Burnley FC in the Community’s Premier League Enterprise and Achieving Moor programmes recently enjoyed a school day out of the ordinary when Burnley FC defender Charlie Taylor came to see them at West Craven High School.

The visit of Charlie was part of an event to celebrate the students’ success on both programmes. It was also an acknowledgement of the growing partnership between BFCitC and West Craven, which has seen us deploy a full-time Behaviour Mentor/HLTA into the high school to support and inspire students on a one-to-one basis.

Upon arrival, Charlie chatted to pupils from our 2017/18 and 2018/19 cohorts, before going head-to-head with them in a guess who-style game of ‘teammates’.

Members of the Clarets’ first team were described by BFCitC staff and Charlie was tasked with being the first to answer ahead of the West Craven students, testing his knowledge and how well he really knows his teammates!

After posing for a group photo, Charlie then visited a class of students that are currently engaging with the PL Enterprise and Achieving Moor programmes with Burnley FC’s official charity.

The left-back spoke to pupils about the work they were completing in class and even had a go at completing some tasks in the PL Enterprise booklet himself.

Jack Ormesher, Burnley FC in the Community’s Premier League Enterprise Coordinator, said: “We very much appreciate the support and engagement from the players. It was clear to see Charlie gave the students an afternoon to remember by helping them celebrate their efforts on both our Premier League Enterprise and Achieving Moor programmes.”

PL Enterprise is a free, flexible, interactive course that engages, inspires and unlocks learners’ potential, introduces learners to business and entrepreneurship and helps them develop eight essential enterprise and employability skills using the power of football.

BFCitC’s Achieving Moor Interventions programme aims to build pupils’ confidence and self-esteem and give them a more positive outlook towards school, while encouraging them to be more willing to engage and raising their aspirations.
