James Tricketts Insurance Brokers hosted their inaugural golf day on Friday 23rd August, at Burnley Golf Club, raising over £1,000 for Burnley FC in the Community’s various community programmes.

Despite the atrocious weather, six teams took to the iconic Burnley Golf Club Glen View course with some big prizes on offer.

A holiday in Portugal, new golf clubs and £10,000 in cash were all offered in prizes by organisers Tricketts for anyone managing to land a hole in one on the various par 3 holes. Unfortunately, none of the field managed to overcome the main obstacle – strong wind and heavy rain – to claim any of the prizes.

The longest drive prize was taken by para-Olympian Robert Holden, who was playing for the host team. Holden, who plays off a handicap of 11, left for the World Championships in Dubai shortly after the competition and is hoping to emulate his gold medal performance at the Special Olympics in Sheffield last year.

Holden’s performance helped Tricketts Insurance to a joint first place in the stableford competition, as they tied with Burnley based legal firm Donald, Race and Newton Solicitors, with DRN crowned eventual winners after a card play-off saw them win the back 9.

Futaba Manufacturing were separated from the leaders by a single point, leaving them in third place.

A strong Thorne Access & Security team, who had the lowest handicapped team on paper, came in fourth with O2 Burnley and Rapid IT, led by business owner and captain of Burnley Golf Club David Bannister, coming in joint fifth as the turn in the weather left the course virtually un-playable.

Back in the club house, the teams enjoyed a sumptuous two-course meal whilst hearing about the work of the chosen charity, Burnley FC in the Community, as well as taking part in a quiz, raffle and auction.

Scott Swainbank, Commercial Account Manager and organiser of the day, said: “We have been a tee sponsor at Burnley Golf Club for twelve months now and enjoy a great working relationship with the club. Our relationship with Burnley FC in the Community is now entering its third year and we are proud to support them in whatever way we can.”

“We have a large client base in Burnley and Rossendale and the Golf Day is a great way to bring our clients together and support the Golf Club and Burnley FC in the Community.”

“We hope to make the day an annual event. I would like to thank Joyce Green and all at Burnley Golf Club for hosting us and to all of the teams who took part.”

Ryan Bradley, Business Development Executive at Burnley FC in the Community, said: “Tricketts support us through our Friends of Burnley FC in the Community scheme but they are a company that always go above and beyond.”

“Since we started working together they have organised a sponsored walk from their offices in Rawtenstall to Turf Moor and Director Janine Packman also joined a team of volunteers that took on some missionary work in Ghana as part of our African Adventures programme.”

“All of this means that we can continue to do the work that we do in local communities, whether that is employability, education, sport or health programmes.”

“Thank you to Scott and all of the teams that took part for supporting our work.”
