This is an exciting pilot project led by Burnley FC in the Community (BFCitC) in close partnership with the Pendle Education Trust and Pendle Vale College.
As partners we believe in creating the best opportunities for learning and success and enhancing the life chances of our young people. This project aims to support Key Stage 3 children who may be struggling to achieve in the classroom for any number of reasons.
The children will remain members of their school but have a variety of interventions to break down their barriers to learning and support the development of a positive mindset that ensures they can meet their full potential. There will be a maximum of 15 pupils involved in the programme at any one time, with up to five pupils coming from each school – Colne Primet Academy, Pendle Vale College and West Craven High.
The learning environment will be a purpose-designed building within the grounds of Colne Primet Academy and the provision will be managed by BFCitC with a dedicated teaching team employed by BFCitC. High quality curriculum and teaching will be provided to all the children involved and they will also benefit from mentoring support, careers guidance, extra-curricular and reward opportunities and a positive learning environment.
The pupils’ experience will be enhanced by access to other BFCitC facilities including The Leisure Box at Northlight, Whitehough Outdoor Centre and Turf Moor. The programme will see pupils attending full time for six-week periods and provides an alternative environment to support their needs. The content of the provision will be based on the following themes – Social Skills, Aspirations, Responsibility, Resilience, Self-Esteem and Team Work.
All partners in the project are committed to ensuring it achieves its goals and to reintegrating the children involved back into their schools with a revitalised and positive approach to learning.
