The Friends of Burnley FC in the Community team came together once more to take on Liverpool Road-based Futaba Manufacturing UK as part of their annual family fun day celebrations.
The fixture, which marked the third time the teams have met, was played at Padiham FC’s Arbories Memorial Sports Ground and preceded an afternoon of food, drink and family fun for all.
The BFCitC team was made up of staff from across the charity’s programmes, with teachers, tutors, coaches and youth workers making up the numbers alongside participants from projects including Armed Forces Veterans, Men’s Healthy Weight Management and the Clarets Welcome Refugee Programme.
The Man of the Match was awarded to The Leisure Box’s Cuan Bradley, who put in a sterling performance between the sticks in the first half to keep Futaba at bay.
It was Futaba who were the early pace setters and BFCitC had the in-form Bradley to thank for keeping the score at just 1-0 with half an hour played.
A fortuitous 30-yarder from NCS Manager Callam Barnes levelled the score, before Sport Development Coach Dan Bray headed home from the six-yard line.
Futaba did manage to level just before half-time but, with call ups to league teams for pre-season friendlies for the younger staff at Futaba, the second half was always going to be a battle.
Half-time signings Phil Malley and Steve Taylor added some touches of class to the Futaba team and with 10 minutes remaining the scores were locked at 3-3.
The game finished with a flurry of goals for BFCitC as the energy levels dipped for Futaba.
Burnley FC in the Community would like to thank all at Futaba for your support of our ‘Friends of’ programme over the last three seasons and we look forward to playing again next year.
