Fridge van conversion for Burnley Community Kitchen

Fridge van conversion for Burnley Community Kitchen

A Burnley business has gone the extra mile for the Burnley Community Kitchen by donating a refrigerated van conversion to Burnley FC in the Community.

CoolKit, based in Farrington Place, have converted our Mercedes Vito panel van into a refrigerated vehicle with the help of their supplier GAH, which will help BFCitC transport donated food to and from the Kitchen.

Based in the Upper Market Square of the Charter Walk Shopping Centre, the Kitchen, which opens on Monday 6th August, will feature a supermarket-style foodbank, community café, discounted retail area and library. It will also provide cookery classes where staff can show people how to cook healthy meals on a budget.

The van will be used to deliver food to school breakfast clubs, refuges and other causes. It will also collect donations of surplus stock and food from supermarkets and transport them to the Kitchen’s warehouse.

Paul France, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Burnley FC in the Community, thanked CoolKit for their support: “We thank CoolKit for their generosity in donating this refrigerated van conversion. It means that we can make a difference together by safely transporting food donations to and from the Burnley Community Kitchen.”

Shaun O’Farrell, Refrigeration Director at GAH, said: “When GAH were made aware of CoolKit’s commitment to make a difference we did not hesitate in getting involved. With the weight of Burnley FC’s official charity behind the project, we could immediately see this was a charity opportunity that would make a difference.”

Loredana Emmerson, Marketing Manager at CoolKit, said: “It’s a pleasure to be involved with such a worthy project. As Friends of Burnley FC in the Community we have decided to announce them as our charity of the year, with specific focus on the Community Kitchen.

The Burnley Community Kitchen is looking for volunteers including van drivers (you must be 21+ and held a full UK driving licence for one year), community café workers, foodbank assistants, warehouse operatives and reception staff. Please contact our Community Kitchen Manager, Anita Orchard, on if you are interested.
