The Girls’ Post-16 Academy programme is delivered by Burnley FC in the Community staff in partnership with the Nelson and Colne College Group. The programme gives talented young players between the ages of 16 and 18 the chance to combine academic studies with practical football experience.
Lois Page is one of our current players in the Girls’ Post-16 Academy. Lois combines her academic studies in sports and exercise science with daily football training sessions as part of the full-time course.
“The coaching and teaching staff on the course have really helped to support my coaching and football development. With the support of the coaches, I have now started developing my own coaching practices and playing philosophies. I also find it useful to participate in daily training sessions as I can use some of the drills and adapt them to deliver them myself.
“Overall, I would say that being part of the Girls’ Post-16 Academy with Burnley FC in the Community and Nelson & Colne College has really helped me from both a player and coach point of view. I would definitely recommend it for other girls to consider as an option when thinking about what to do after high school.”
If you are looking to take up your further education at Nelson and Colne College and love the idea of playing football alongside your studies, then our Girls’ Post-16 Academy is for you…
The next open training session/trial will take place on Thursday 3rd June 2021 at Accrington & Rossendale College, 9-11am.
