BFCitC coaches were delighted to be joined by pupils from over 30 local primary schools for the Under 11s Premier League Primary Stars Schools tournament recently.
Pupils from schools including Christ the King, St James Lanehead, Burnley St Peter’s and Padiham St Leonards took part in the tournament held at Prairie Sports Village, cheered on by parents, friends and teachers.
The event forms part of the Premier League Schools Tournament, an annual initiative that engages girls, boys and mixed football teams from local primary schools from around the country.
The teams took to the Prairie Sports Village for morning and afternoon sessions, with the winning teams then progressing to the BFCitC finals day, due to take place at Burnley FC’s Barnfield Training Centre, home of the first team, at the end of November.
The winners of this finals day will then go on to represent Burnley FC at the national tournament held at a Premier League stadium, in early 2019. Previously teams have represented Burnley, at the exciting tournament, at Chelsea FC’s Stamford Bridge and Leicester City’s King Power stadium.
After facing tough competition, the winners of the mixed team’s tournament were Briercliffe Primary, St James’ Lanehead, Christ the King R.C. Primary and Worsthorne Primary School.
Sport Development Manager, Sam Howell said: “It was fantastic to see so many local primary schools getting involved in the tournament. There was some brilliant teamwork, effort and skill shown on the day by many of the players.”
“Congratulations to the winning teams for progressing through to the finals day, you should all be really proud of yourselves. The Premier League Primary Stars schools tournament is a brilliant initiative for schools to get involved in, with some great opportunities including the chance to experience playing at a Premier League stadium if they go ahead to represent Burnley FC at the national event. Well played to all of the teams for taking part and best of luck for the rest of the tournament!”
