Extra Time (Over 50s)

Age UK state that over 1 million people aged 65+ in the UK are lonely. Our award-winning Extra Time programme, supported by our Bronze Patrons O2 Burnley, helps tackle issues such as loneliness and social isolation, as well as helping to increase participation in physical activity among the senior community. Our friendly and welcoming team provide a range of activities to get involved in.

Extra Time runs every Wednesday morning from 10:00 – 12:00 in the Jimmy McIlroy Stand at Turf Moor. This programme is free and is aimed at the over 50s of the community.

Our Extra Time survey confirmed that our programme is making a difference:

  • 100% of our participants made new friends at the sessions!
  • 92% of our participants confirmed that the sessions helped them feel less lonely!

Our weekly sessions include:

  • Indoor carpet bowls
  • Board games
  • Wellbeing pitch walks
  • Chair aerobics
  • Refreshments
  • Dominoes
  • Physical activity taster sessions
