Our Veterans Football sessions allow those who have served to stay fit, socialise and have the opportunity to represent Burnley FC in the Community against other community teams.
Since we have started Veterans Football for former military veterans, 28 ex-servicemen have engaged with the sessions at least twice with a core group of 10-15 people at each session. The sessions take place every Wednesday night between 6pm – 8pm at The Leisure Box, Northlight, Glen Way, Brierfield, BB9 5NH.
Military Veterans League – five-a-side
Burnley FC in the Community has joined forces with other Northwest Community Foundations to launch a five-a-side league for military veterans. The league is played monthly and hosted at each club once, with one fixture taking place each time.
Alongside Burnley, the league includes Manchester City, Wigan Athletic, Preston North End and Curzon Ashton’s military veterans teams.
This league is a chance to bring groups of veterans together to play competitive football, which is something a lot miss from their days of service. It also provides social opportunities and a unique chance to represent their respective football clubs.
Together we have created a network of clubs to help promote the respective veterans programme of each participating Community Foundation, therefore increasing awareness and opportunities for local veterans to get involved. We are always looking to expand the league to include more local teams.
If you are ex-armed forces and would like the opportunity to represent Burnley against other military teams, or simply want to get fit through free football sessions, please contact our Health and Wellbeing Officer, Naomi Greene, on 07934853388 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
