The Shadow Youth Team ran out two nil winners over Burton Albion thanks to goals from Connor Lucas and Martin Enow.
Burnley had an early chance to take the lead when Lucas found himself free on the edge of the box, only to see his effort roll just past the post. Burton then seized on that missed opportunity by the Clarets and it was the away side who then looked the better team for most the first half.
However, despite Burton’s dominance, it was the Clarets who scored first. Connor Lucas was far more clinical when opportunity number two came along as he played a neat one two with fellow front man Josh Ilesanmi, calmly slotting the ball in from 8 yards.
The half time break provided a good opportunity to re-group and find solutions to help the team.
A few half chances presented themselves in the early stages of the second half and the pressure paid off when the Burton defender passed the ball back to his keeper who picked the ball up following the Burnley high press. Lewis Richmond set the free kick for captain Martin Enow to drill the ball low into the corner. Keeper Jake Dall made two important saves during the second half to keep Burton off the scoresheet.
Burnley FC Shadow Youth Team Head Coach, Chris Andrews said: “The game was the total opposite of our recent performances. Instead of playing well and not securing a victory, we were second best for large periods of the game but managed to convert our chances to win. The game today provided the players with a different learning experience. Whilst the performance wasn’t the best, there is something to be said for winning ugly!”
