The Shadow Youth Team came back from a goal down to win 2-1 against the Sky Blues.
Second half goals from Josh Ilesanmi and Lewis Richmond capped a largely dominant display against a physical Coventry side.
The Clarets started well and enjoyed most of the possession in the opening half hour with Clinton Agho causing the Coventry defence all sorts of problems. Against the run of play, Coventry scored when a quickly taken throw in caught the defenders out of position.
The Burnley FC Shadow Youth Team regained control of the game during the second half with Agho once again being a threat. Ridwan Sanni anchored the midfield and provided ample protection for the back four whilst also starting numerous counter attacks.
Ilesanmi drew the Shadow Youth Team level when he ran onto a Lucas flick on and slotted the ball home on the hour mark. Just six minutes later, Lewis Richmond’s clever body feint inside the box was enough to draw the foul and earn himself a penalty, which he calmly put past the keeper.
Burnley FC Shadow Youth Team Head Coach, Chris Andrews said: “We showed great character and determination in today’s performance. When you go a goal down having had the better of the play, it is often hard to put that disappointment to one side. The players were ready to accept that challenge in the second half and they all worked extremely hard for one another. Ridwan Sanni has been working hard on all aspects of his game and he is seeing the rewards on the pitch!”
