Match Report: Burnley FC Shadow Youth Team 2 – Crystal Palace 2

Connor Lucas scores twice for Shadow Youth Team

The Shadow Youth Team were slow out of the blocks having made the long journey to play former Palace and Arsenal player, Eddie Mc Goldrick’s Eagles.

A long ball in the first five minutes caught the Clarets off guard and the Palace forward capitalised by finishing from eight yards. The pressure continued until the 15-minute mark when the Shadow Youth Team began to retain the ball and enjoy more of the action in the opposition half.

On 18 minutes, Connor Lucas pulled a goal back for Burnley and they looked most likely then to go on to score another however the Palace captain managed to find some space and head home a second goal for the Eagles just before the half time break.

A productive half time discussion prompted a good response from Burnley. Josh Ilesanmi was a constant threat, creating chances for himself and his team mates, but it was Connor Lucas again who drew the Shadow Youth Team level with a neat finish from inside the penalty area. From then on, most of the action was in the Palace half although the home side did threaten occasionally with longs balls into their forwards.

The game should have been won with three minutes to go when Martin Enow floated an inviting cross to the back post but the running Omotayo could only find the side netting.

BFC Shadow Youth Team Head Coach, Chris Andrews said: “It was a game that we should have taken more from. We had three or four good opportunities to get the winning goal and see out the game but I guess that’s football. The pleasing thing from today is the way the team reacted from such a slow start, having spent the morning on the motorway.   Unfortunately for Connor, he had to come off injured. He loves scoring goals and he was bitterly disappointed not to be on the pitch for the last 20 minutes to help the team secure the win.”

BFC Shadow Youth Team: Bunting-Jones, Brewer, Enow, Holland, Tabone, Sanni, Ilesanmi, Richmond ©, Lucas (Omotayo), Djabi, Agheyisi (Agho).
