Stunning comeback leaves Chelsea blue in the face!
With Burnley and Chelsea separated by just one place in the top three of the National U19 Football Youth Reserve League, it was all to play for when the two sides met on Friday.
Things were looking good for the Clarets when Tomi Omotayo ran through on goal after just 13 seconds, only to see his effort roll just wide of the post. A crazy 20 minutes then followed when Chelsea scored three goals, to leave the home side stunned.
Martin Enow pulled one back, finishing from a tight angle to the right of the goal on 24 minutes, and that was quickly followed when Isaac Kanu found some room in the box to get on the end of a Blake Holland corner.
The equaliser came on the stroke of half time when Tomi Omotayo’s shot hit the post and rebounded to the on-running Josh Ilesanmi to fire home.
A few half chances presented themselves in the early stages of the second half and the comeback was complete when Ilesanmi rolled a clever free kick on the edge of the box to Martin Enow to slot home for his second and Burnley’s fourth.
Burnley FC Shadow Youth Team’s Martin Enow said: “I was really please to score two goals today but most importantly, we won the game and went ahead of Chelsea in the league. It was a sloppy start to the game but the lads more than made up for the early disappointment. I am happy for the team.”
Burnley FC Shadow Youth Team Head Coach, Chris Andrews said: “To miss a good chance as early as 13 seconds in, to then find yourself three nil down within 20 minutes left us a little shell shocked to say the least. From that moment on, the players were brilliant. The character, determination and effort put into the remaining 70 minutes was outstanding. We will digest the opening 20 minutes during our analysis session and collectively we will take a lot from today’s match.”
