On Thursday 4th of November, the Premier League Primary Stars Team welcomed Professional Game Match Official Limited Referee Oliver Langford to St Mary’s Sabden RC Primary School.
Throughout the morning, Oliver Langford delivered two lessons to Year 5 and Year 6, where the classes took part in “help the ref”.
The children learnt about all the different types of equipment referees use and how it all works. The children were lucky enough to have a go and use the equipment such as the disappearing spray.
Following the disappearing spray, the children then had 25 minutes to design or re-create a new piece of equipment that referees could use. However, again, money was no object, and it could be anything they liked. The designers were fantastic.
They then had to present their ideas back to their class in the “Referee Den.”
Leigh Jeffrey, Premier League Primary Stars Coordinator, Said, “It was great to invite Oliver Langford to one of our Premier League Primary Stars Schools and launch our partnership with Oliver and the PGMOL. It was a great morning for the children to have an opportunity to learn all about referees and refereeing. The children loved having a go at using the equipment. They then took part in “help the ref” by using their ideas and creating a piece of equipment that would help referees. It was great to see the children get very creative. We had colourful kits, referee robots, super speed boots. We then saw everyone present their ideas to the rest of the class.
