Premier League visit No Nay Never Forget

The Premier League recently visited Burnley FC in the Community’s No Nay Never Forget group, held every Wednesday afternoon at Burnley Cricket Club.

The coverage highlights our programme and how it supports those affected across Burnley, East Lancashire and West Yorkshire.

The Premier League and its clubs will be supporting Alzheimer’s Society’s Dementia Action Week, which runs from 16-22 May.

No Nay Never Forget offers a safe, comfortable, and supportive environment where people with dementia, Alzheimer’s and memory loss as well as their carers can come together and share experiences.

Since 2016, the programme has seen 128 participants engage in weekly sessions, in partnership with the Alzheimer’s Society.

Martin Payne, BFCitC’s health and Wellbeing Co-ordinator, said: “It’s important for Burnley FC to raise the awareness of dementia and how it affects people.

“Our relationship with the Alzheimer’s Society has been fantastic since day one. They are with us on a regular basis.

“We’re always learning. We want to improve this group, we want this group to be the best it can be and I think we can only do that with professionals, with Alzheimer’s Society. I can’t speak highly enough of them.”

Amanda Boult, Alzheimer’s Society Dementia connect local services manager, added: “Getting a diagnosis is quite daunting for most people. Most people will put that off thinking, ‘What’s the point? There’s no help, there’s no support.’

“But there absolutely is and this group showcases that.”

As well as the great activities, it also gives carers and people with dementia a chance to get information, advice and talk to others in a similar situation.

Activities include, jigsaws puzzles, board games, dominoes and much more, plus a selection of refreshments are available.

Burnley FC in the Community colleagues Mike Colquhoun and Gwil Jones will be taking on a 270-mile cycle challenge from Turf Moor to The Oval, home of Belfast-based club Glentoran, later this month, raising money for Alzheimer’s and raising awareness of Dementia.
