Scott Cunliffe’s fundraising total for his RunAway Challenge has now surpassed the original target of £10k five times over.
Boosted by the hundreds of donations he received on arrival at Goodison Park for the final run of the season, as well as a £10,240 donation from the Burnley FC manager and players – the total has now tipped the £50k mark.
The RunAway Challenge saw Scott run to every one of Burnley FC’s away games during the 2018/19 season, culminating at the Everton V Burnley game earlier in the month. Warmly received by the Toffees, Scott said of the final weekend of the challenge: “It was probably the best weekend of my life.”
Scott’s monumental efforts were also celebrated by Burnley FC at the final home game of the season on Sunday. As well as receiving a cheque from the players by Skipper Tom Heaton for the significant donation, Scott was welcomed onto the Turf Moor pitch to the cheers of thousands of fans at half time.
The ultra-runner was also presented with a commemorative piece to represent his achievement by Club Chairman Mike Garlick and Chair of Trustees and BFCitC Club Director, Brian Nelson. The piece was signed by manager Sean Dyche with the words ‘Legs! Hearts! Minds!’ – the mantra Scott has used to inspire his motivation for the entirety of the 9-month-long challenge.
50% of the funds raised by the RunAway Challenge will be administered by the club’s official charity, Burnley FC in the Community and will support community projects in Scott’s hometown. The other 50% will be split between the community trusts of all 20 Premier League clubs.
Scott’s JustGiving page will remain open until the end of May.
Donations to his efforts can still be made here.
