Burnley FC in the Community were proud to hold a ‘Tales at the Turf’ event in the James Hargreaves stand at Turf Moor recently.
Working alongside Lancashire Schools Library Service, Coal Clough Library, professional author Sarah Roberts and storyteller Rogan Mills, over 70 children from 20 local schools joined in the fun ‘We Are Reading’ event. In support of the #LancashireWeAreReading campaign, children are encouraged to read for pleasure to improve standards in reading across the school curriculum.
With five workshops on the day, including storytelling and reading activities, a book present swap and a ‘get your book out in the dugout’ stadium tour it was a great opportunity for the local school children to swap the classroom for Turf Moor.
Sport Development Manager, Sam Howell said: “Tales at the Turf was a fantastic occasion for young pupils to come to Turf Moor and enjoy a fun filled day focused on reading and the many benefits it can bring.
