Competitive Sport

The Disability Sport Project, with the backing of the Premier League and BT Disability Fund, prides itself on creating a variety of opportunities for people with disabilities, regardless of the severity of their impairment. Some of these opportunities can be within a competitive environment.

Many people with disabilities have endured various barriers when previously attempting to participate in these environments. Therefore, the Disability Sport Project created their grassroots football team – Burnley Disability Football Club – which would offer competitive opportunities in a safe, development-focused environment for a wide range of people from various backgrounds and abilities.

Since its establishment, the club has gone from strength-to-strength and continues to grow, with players taking part in high-quality sessions delivered by qualified, experienced coaches.

Each session follows a programme of study that is focused around technical and tactical aspects of development through game-related practises with an engaging methodology of delivery. This creates strong characters and other skills that can be transferable to wider life.

Being a player for Burnley Disability Football Club can bring about a number of life-changing experiences locally, nationally and globally. Each of the club’s teams compete regularly in the Greater Manchester Ability Counts Football League, playing against the likes of Manchester United and Manchester City.

Burnley Disability Football Club also offers:

  • Opportunities at matchdays and away day trips, for example, Fixture within a Fixture, free game tickets etc.
  • International opportunities such as our trip to play in a tournament in Barcelona! There are more trips on the horizon too…
