The Leisure Box to host Ramadan five-a-side tournament

The Leisure Box will be hosting a five-a-side football tournament which commences this week.

Once the finalists are decided, Burnley FC in the Community’s state-of-the-art facility in Brierfield will play host to a final the following week.

The aim of the event is to engage with local minority communities through sporting activities, which will inevitably develop community cohesion. Participants will also be provided with dates and water during breaks to keep them replenished.

This initiative is unique with the timings operating after the evening Taraweeh prayer. For many Muslims during Ramadan, it can be challenging to find an operating sports facility which is open during the evening and early hours.

Michael Colquhoun, Head of Community Welfare & Inclusion at Burnley FC In The Community, highlighted the great work the Charity have been doing during this sacred month.

“We are delighted to organise a Ramadan Tournament at The Leisure Box in an exciting new initiative this month. As a charity we are supporting Muslim participants across the board including providing space, time and traditional goods to break their fast at our Premier League Kicks sessions, providing Suhoor packs for UCLAN students based at the Burnley Campus throughout Ramadan, and delivering awareness sessions to all participants across our Youth Work and School offers.

“The Ramadan Tournament will be a fantastic chance to provide activity to the local community and we pleased to play a role in supporting people during the Holy Month.”
